Classic Outlook Report button not removed after setting “Use a non-Microsoft add-in button”

          Applies To
Outlook for Microsoft 365 New Outlook for Windows

          Last Updated: November 14, 2024

          ISSUE

Using the Microsoft Defender portal, you configure user reported settings and set “Monitor reported messages in Outlook” to be “Use a non-Microsoft add-in button”. After saving these changes and restarting classic Outlook you find the Report button is still available on the Outlook ribbon.

          STATUS: FIXED

The Microsoft Defender Team made a service change to fix this issue. The fix is in service build 15.20.8115.000 which you can check using the Connection Status Dialog, Version column, Description of the Connection Status dialog box. With this fix completed, the Report button is now enabled for Current Channel in Version 2407 build 17827.15010+ and Monthly Enterprise Channel in version 2409 build 18025.20000+.

Admins can control the appearance and behavior of the Report button from the User reported settings page in the Microsoft 365 Defender portal (security.microsoft.com). Admins can also customize where messages get reported to (reporting mailbox, Microsoft, or both) and what the user sees both before and after reporting messages from these buttons. This change is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 371388 and message center post MC841229.
